Here it is, the IBM PC. I had completely forgotten
about the Charlie Chaplin looking character that IBM used as their
spokesperson. Those were the days. No need to even
worry about Hard Drives (They were so reliable, they were still in
use when I was in High School [1990-1994]. Either that or my
school was just cheap).
Who wants to wait around for film to be
developed. Wait no more! You now have the Polaroid. It
magically makes pictures for you at the touch of a
button. (Ever think back then that you would ever see a Digital
camera? Ever hear the world digital in 1982 for that matter?)
Oh yes, the Prez himself: Ronald Regan (not to be
confused with Ronald McDonald for our younger readers). Remember
the non-movable hair? How about "Trickle Down
Economics"? or even, "Win one for the Gipper"?
Oh yes, those were the days
The space shuttle Columbia was one of the biggest
topics of discussion in the early 80's, and a tribute to the
exploration of space. We all tuned in for every shuttle
launch and were completely awed at this massive hunk of steal hurtling
itself into the sky.
The Challenger, and it's ill fated final voyage was still a few
years off.
HDTV? Not a chance! If you wanted Big
Screen this was what you got. The cream of Sony's crop
are shown to the left. I loved covering up one of the
"Projectors" (either Red Green or Blue) and watching the
result on the screen. . .That's right, this was the time of the
"Big Screen Projection TV."
